Sassolungo Pass

Sassolungo, 3181 m,
one means first of all a
huge block of rock about
two thousend meters long
with faces higher than
one thousend meters.
A paradise for climbers,
a pardise for hikers. We
start our tour a Sella
Pass and take the steep
way up to the Sassolungo
Pass and the mountain
hut "Thoni Demetz"(2684m).
From here we have an
amazing view on Punta
Grohmann which is
part of the famous Punta
Cinque Dita (or fife
fingers), a bold
steep-sided mountain
topped by a jagged and
composite ridge.
Hiking down the
Sassolungo Pass with its
huge cliffs and rocks,
after 2 hours we reach
the mountain hut
Vicenza.
From there we can walk
to Saltria at Alpe di
Siusi or continue
our excursion on a round
trip to mountain hut
Sassopiatto and back
to Sella Pass on the
easy Federico Augusto
path.
